Building a Sexy Playlist, According to Science

July 9, 2018
By, laura

It turns out that the way to a woman’s heart is through music. Music can evoke many emotions in us, and if you choose the right tracks, those emotions can lead to some pretty outrageous sex. How does this work, you might be wondering? This week, we’re looking at the biological reason that music gets us going, and how you can craft the perfect sexy time playlist, according to science.

Music starts tend to evoke a particular reaction in women, whether it’s One Direction or the Rolling Stones. At some point, they’ve all had women screaming their names. The funny thing about many musicians is that you don’t have to be the best looking guy in the room, but if you can find your way around a guitar or have a voice worth shouting about, chances are women will flock to your feet.

From an evolutionary standpoint, there’s no real reason that women would be attracted to musicians. For starters, it’s not exactly a stable to secure lifestyle. Very few musicians command the big bucks that would be conducive with being able to raise a family with any sort of security. So, why are women always falling at musician’s feet?

It could be a similar situation to a peacock’s tail. It serves no evolutionary benefit other than to show off, and musicians seem to display similar traits. Once we get past our survival instincts, the next thing we look for in a partner is creativity. This is down to the link between creativity and fertility.

High testosterone exposure during gestation leads to the greater development of the right side of the brain where musical ability resides. High foetal testosterone exposure has also been linked to men being more healthy, athletic and having a higher sperm count. This leads some to believe that musical ability is linked to fertility and this is what makes singers hot as hell and irresistible.

Even if you aren’t a musician, you can still capitalise on the work of others for your bedroom antics. Using the perfect music to put together the perfect sexy playlist is one way to guarantee some action in the bedroom. If you’re struggling for inspiration, here are some songs that should definitely feature on your playlist.

Top songs on sex playlists, according to Spotify

1. Intro – The xx

2. From Eden – Hozier

3. Menswear – The 1975

4. Magic – Coldplay

5. You & Me (Flume Remix) – Disclosure

6. Sweet Ophelia – Zella Day

7. Let’s Get Started – Dylan Gardner

8. Night Like This – LP

9. Talk Is Cheap – Chet Faker

10. Dreams – Fou De Toi

What’s clear from the research is that it doesn’t really matter what the song is, all that matters is that you both like it. The pleasure centres of your brain are already flaring when you’re in the throes of passion, so adding music that you love only helps to intensify these feelings. If you can get a good rhythm going from it, that can only help things along.

For the visual learners

If you’re more into the visual intensity of the music, then music videos are the way to go. It’s no secret that music videos are getting raunchier as the years go by, but sometimes, less is more. Here are some of the sexiest music videos in history.

Madonna – Justify my Love

A four-minute homage to French cinema, this black and white beauty is all long embraces, crazy dancing and the suggestion of a threesome.

Fiona Apple – Criminal

Shot like a seedy amateur porn, it looks an awful lot like an American Apparel photo shoot gone weird.

Rihanna – S&M

For obvious reasons. “Sticks and stones may break my bones but chains and whips excite me.”

Duran Duran – Girls on Film

Featuring a parade of female models in various outfits, from cowgirls to swimsuits.

The White Stripes – I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself

You won’t know what to do with yourself after watching this video starring Kate Moss and a dancer pole.

Aerosmith – Crazy

A fun romp with Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler rocking out to this now classic tune.

So, there you have it, some of the sexiest sights and sounds known to man. How will you incorporate music into your bedroom play?
